GwynneSPEED Half-Day Rally Experience

Upon arrival, we furnish you with tea & coffee and introduce to our team of expert rally staff. All of the GwynneSpeed staff have had experience in either National or International rallying and so should you have any questions about any aspect of rallying, please don't hesitate to ask.

After a thorough briefing where all the safety points are covered and a very brief introduction into some of the techniques your instructor will be teaching you, it's straight into the driving seat of the rally car. Your co-driver/instructor will guide you around the loose surface stage at a slow pace to begin with to show you the areas of the stage where you will need to be aware of where the car is going to understeer, oversteer, slide or loose traction. The next time you come across these corners, you will be traveling a lot more quickly so make sure that you listen to what your co-driver is telling you.

The next few laps are at a far more intense pace. Your co-driver will be encouraging you to get the car sliding about and they will be showing you how to correct understeer & oversteer, how to use the handbrake and throttle to control the car as well as how to make the most of the brake, turn, power technique to enable you to take even the most demanding corners at the fastest possible speed. They will also start using basic pace notes such as:

ER< 40 ! C 30 HpL 150 Jnc 9R>

Don't panic – this may seem totally foreign to you at the moment but by the end of the rally experience it will make perfect sense!

You will then come into the paddock area and change over drivers. This will give you a chance to reflect on the totally new driving techniques that you have just experienced. It was also give you a chance to watch other people and notice the mistakes they are making or possibly how well they are tackling the stage.

The next time you get in the car, you will have the opportunity to put your newly found skills into practice but without being under the pressure of the stop watch – that is still to come! Your instructor will be pushing you to brake later, work harder to make the car slide around the corners in anticipation for your timed competition laps in the next session. By this point in the course, you will have memorised a lot of the stage and so you are nearly ready for the competitive laps!
